Where Are Your Drugs Made?

In continuation on the exploration of transparency surrounding medications, Dr. Gorfinkel investigates drug manufacturing and poses the question – where are my drugs made?

On July 10, 2018 Health Canada issued two recent drug recalls that received considerable press: one was a medication used to treat gastric hyper-acidity, ranitidine (Zantac). The other was an anti-hypertensive, valsartan (Diovan). Even after these widely publicized recalls, most patients and physicians remain completely unaware of where their drugs are manufactured. As a result, patients and physicians rarely consider issues around drug manufacturing quality when assessing medications' adverse events.
